Sam has freelanced for some of the South West’s leading agencies, such as Proctors, Dutton Merrifield (now Duttons Design), Jarvis White (now One Brand Group), and internal agencies at Zurich Financial Services and Nationwide. This presented an excellent mix of experiences, from variously sized internal and external agencies to a wide variety of clients and projects. Over the years, Sam has gained an enviable reputation for her corporate identity and brand positioning work, including packaging, advertising, art direction, brochures, event materials and websites.
In 2002, Sam took a break to go travelling. Her explorations took her to Russia, India, China, and other far flung places, including driving the length of Australia in a van, and picking grapes in New Zealand. On her return in 2005, Sam was invited to become founder Creative Director for 375 Creative Resource Group. After taking the company from a small team to a respected agency, Sam decided it was time for a new challenge.
So, in November 2006, Sam founded Gravity: an agency with a clear direction on its positioning, specialisms, and satisfying the needs and expectations of clients. With many clients following suit, Mike Cannings soon joined her, and they now work together creating identities, websites and printed materials for their broad client base. From establishing new brands and maintaining consistency to managing every aspect of projects, Sam’s skill resides in transforming businesses by developing brands. Sam is also a champion of the design industry through her support of Bristol Media and the West of England Design Forum. Passionate about typography and concerned it is becoming a forgotten design skill, Sam has a degree in Graphic Design with a specialism in Typography from the University of Plymouth.
