Mike Cannings, Designer.

Mike Cannings, or ‘Big Mike’ to his friends, studied at Bath School of Art and Design, gaining a degree in graphic design. A talented illustrator, Mike graduated in 2001 and became a fully fledged graphic designer, working for many top organisations including BMW, Hewlett Packard and the South West Regional Development Agency. During his time at 375, Proctor and Stevenson and SteersMcGillan, he managed everything from branding and literature to illustrations and web design.

Within SteersMcGillan, Mike worked mainly for the arts and local councils, including Manchester Art Gallery, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Poole Art, and Bath and North Somerset council. His tenure at SteersMcGillan also gave Mike a strong grounding in typography.

A position at Proctor and Stevenson saw Mike involved with branding, literature, illustrations and web design. Mike worked on annual reports, illustrations, advertising and sustainability campaigns for Stansted and Gatwick, BMW and MINI. He also put his skills to work on the animation for HP Promotional Manager, creating the characters and backgrounds.

Seeking new experiences further afield, Mike took a year off to travel. In Australia, Mike freelanced for five months, working for such clients as Australia Post and HIF Health Insurance. From there, Mike’s travels took him to Malaysia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii, and New York.

On his return, Mike began working for Sam at Gravity in the spring of 2007. Since joining the team, he’s been involved in a wealth of high-profile projects. These include refreshing the corporate identity of PES, developing illustration concepts for the CCT positioning project, producing newsletters and brochures for Wiltshire Farm Foods, and designing identities for both SSAS and Ride the Wave.
